New Geriatric Psychiatry Program offered from Home Care by Black Stone
Local In-Home Care Provider Addresses Special Needs of Those Suffering from Dementia & Alzheimer's Disease
Dayton, OH – March 8, 2011 – The needs of the elderly trying to age in the home vary greatly. From medical care to companionship, seniors are often helped by in-home health care companies providing caregiver services. But what happens when there are psychiatric needs stemming from common afflictions like dementia and Alzheimer's Disease? Home Care by Black Stone, a leading provider of in-home caregiving services in Southwest Ohio, today announced a new psychiatric program available to all clients in need.
The agency has seen an increasing need for these types of services and a lack of accessibility to them in the home. As a result, Home Care by Black Stone has taken the necessary steps to become a Medicare certified provider of geriatric psychiatric services to its Cincinnati and Dayton clients.
Nationwide, older adults with mental illnesses are a vulnerable group, often living in isolation without access to the services that would greatly improve their lives. One in 10 adults over age 65 and nearly half of those over 85 suffer from Alzheimer’s disease, 5 percent of the elderly in the community live with depression, and 4 percent of older adults have anxiety disorders.
"Our new psychiatric program is an additional improvement to our in-home care protocol which will bring another facet of independence and client growth while remaining at home. We saw a huge need in our aging population for assistance in this area, with little access to services," commented David Tramontana, CEO, Home Care by Black Stone.
Home Care by Black Stone clients will now be able to receive in-home assessments, which is extremely important in dealing with mental impairments related to aging. The psychiatric caregiving team will be able to listen and respond to the concerns of the client, help families, and when necessary, work with other health care professionals to develop effective approaches to treatment.
Tramontana continued, “The benefits of working an in-home psychiatric program coincide with many of the recommended treatments for dementia and Alzheimer's Disease such as keeping the environment the same and engaging in routine. It is a great fit to provide these services in the home and we are proud to be among the first to offer this service in the state of Ohio."
