Black Stone Family of Care Services Announces New Service Line

Aimed to Help Create Plans for Aging

Care Advisors Branch Will Help Families Plan for Finances, Care, Insurance and More

Cincinnati, OH – April 6, 2010 – The Black Stone Family of Care Services, a leading provider of in-home caregiving services in Southwest Ohio, today announced the launch of its geriatric care management services. The new service line is called Care Advisors by Black Stone, and is staffed by registered nurses with extensive experience in geriatrics.

Geriatric care management services include, among other things, guidance on the issues and options of aging, help navigating the complex health care system, assessment of the health and well-being of clients, coordination of care and advocacy. Through the addition of geriatric care management services, Black Stone widens its current service portfolio to provide solutions for all stages of aging from independent living to in-home nursing.

“With Care Advisors we’re trying to empower families to plan ahead and make decisions early about aging, finances and care. We guide clients and give them the knowledge and the information to take control of the aging process and avoid potential crisis,” said David Tramontana, President and CEO, Home Care by Black Stone.

“We are facing a massive increase in the aging population. The AARP says its membership, which consists of people 50 and over, will swell to more than 70 million by 2015. Census figures indicate that the 65-plus U.S. population will double to about 71.5 million by 2030, and the number of adults over 85 will triple over the next 40 years. Planning ahead for the contingencies and challenges of aging is in everyone’s best interest. Care Advisors will help families do that with an experienced guide,” continued Tramontana.

Home Care by Black Stone offers a suite of services clients can call upon to get guidance, ranging from care management to referrals sources for home modifications to family caregiver guidance.

“One of the reasons for the creation of Care Advisors by Black Stone is to help seniors and their families make sound decisions about their care before a crisis occurs. We also serve as a liaison between the client and their family. Many times families don’t want or know how to have difficult conversations about future care and needs. We help facilitate and guide these discussions. Unfortunately, many people wait until they're in a challenging, crisis situation to ask for help — like mom falling and breaking her hip. We are trying to help families become more proactive,” added Micki Fehring, RN, Geriatric Care Manager for Care Advisors by Black Stone.

Currently, the Black Stone Family of Care Services provides home health care and nursing services to more than 3,000 seniors in southwest and central Ohio. Black Stone’s 700 nurses, therapists and home care aides serve clients in eleven different cities in Ohio including Cincinnati, Dayton, Springfield, Xenia, Hamilton, Lebanon, Blanchester, Piqua, Batavia, London, and Columbus. Care Advisors’ services will be available in Warren, Butler, Clinton, Hamilton and Clermont counties.
